The Mythos Readiness Gap: How to Stop Risk Before It Enters Your Software
Based on the Mythos Readiness Report. AI is accelerating vulnerability discovery much faster than it is reducing risk. In this session we walk through the findings of the Mythos Readiness Report and what security and engineering leaders should do next.
Agenda
- 01
The state of vulnerabilities
Why 89% of vulnerabilities already have a fix — and why they stay open.
- 02
The state of Mythos
What AI exploit generation really changes, and where severity ratings fall short.
- 03
Secure the frameworks you bring in
Open source frameworks ship far more than the 1% you actually use. A hardened image is checked and safe — the rest is potential risk.
- 04
A readiness framework
The four stages of readiness and how to move up.
- 05
Framing it for the board
Turning the data into a business case. Live Q&A.
Secure the frameworks you bring in
Most risk doesn't come from the code you write — it comes from the open source frameworks and base images you invite in. Teams pull in a full framework, use around 1% of it, and ship the remaining 99% as unmanaged attack surface.
You use about 1% of what you import
A framework or open source base image arrives with the whole kitchen sink: modules, parsers, shell tools and services you never call. The code you depend on is a fraction of the code you ship.
The other 99% is potential risk
Every unused component is a CVE waiting for a reason, an attack surface you never designed for, and a compliance question you can't answer. You don't have to use a component for it to be exploitable.
A hardened image is checked and safe
A hardened build strips out what isn't needed, pins what remains and is verified before it ships. Fewer components means fewer vulnerabilities — the ones that aren't there can't be exploited.
Push it left into the pipeline
Make the hardened image the default in your base layers and CI, so teams get safety by default instead of by exception, and the framework inventory stays small over time.
Prepare beforehand: read the report or take the Readiness Scan.
