Maturity is capped by your weakest link. If you're pulling unvetted artifacts straight from public open source registries, fast remediation downstream doesn't lift you out of the lower stages; it just means you're a good chaser.
Most teams sit at Stage 2, where confidence is well ahead of protection: the readiness gap at its widest. More detection deepens Stage 2; it doesn't move you up. To bring the gap near zero, risk must be handled before it enters.
